Beach Small World Play
This beach small world play activity turns a painted paper plate into a simple summer scene. Children paint ocean water, add sand for texture, then use printable beach people and objects to build stories, practice vocabulary, and move the pieces through pretend play.

Materials
- Paper plate
- Blue paint
- Paintbrush
- Sand, play sand, or brown sensory filler
- Glue
- Scissors
- Beach Cutouts Printable
- Cardstock or regular printer paper
How to Do the Activity
- Paint the top half of a paper plate with blue paint to make the ocean.
- Add glue to the bottom half of the plate and sprinkle sand or sensory filler over it.
- Let the plate dry before adding the printable pieces.
- Print and cut out the beach people, toys, shells, towel, umbrella, and other objects.
- Invite children to choose where each piece belongs in the beach scene.
- Use the scene for pretend play, storytelling, vocabulary practice, counting, and position words.

Teacher Tip: Keep the cutouts loose if you want children to move them around for repeated storytelling. If you want a finished craft, glue the pieces down after children have had time to arrange and rearrange the beach scene.
